Adult Dose

Indication: Primary herpes simplex infections
Age: Adult
Dose: Oral – 200 mg
Frequency: 5 times daily every 4 hours (omitting the night time dose)
Duration: 5-10 days

Condition: Severely immunocompromised patients and those with impaired absorption
Dose: Oral – 400 mg
Frequency: 5 times daily
Duration: 5 days

Child Dose

Age: greater than 2 years
Dose: Oral – 200 mg
Frequency: 5 times daily every 4 hours (omitting the night time dose)

Renal Dose

Age: Adult
Condition: Creatinine Clearance less than 10 mL/min/1.73 m²
Dose: by mouth (oral) – 200 mg
Frequency: every 12 hours
Note: Based on normal dosage of 200 mg every 4 hours or 400 mg every 12 hours
Age: Adult
Condition: Creatinine Clearance 10-25 mL/min/1.73 m²
Dose: by mouth (oral) – 800 mg
Frequency: every 8 hours
Note: Based on normal dosage of 800 mg every 4 hours

  • Can be taken with or without food
  • Take with water
