Administration

Administer budesonide oral delayed-release capsules or extended-release tablets once daily in the morning, typically with or without food, though specific brands like Tarpeyo must be taken at least one hour before a meal. Swallow oral solids whole without crushing, chewing, or breaking; however, certain delayed-release capsules may be opened and sprinkled on applesauce if swallowing is difficult. For eosinophilic esophagitis, use the oral suspension by squeezing the stick pack directly into the mouth, ensuring no food or liquid is consumed for 30 minutes post-dose, followed by a mouth rinse. Avoid grapefruit products during treatment. Monitoring is required for patients with hepatic impairment due to increased systemic exposure risk, and use is not recommended in severe hepatic impairment.
