Adult Dose

Indication: Susceptible infections
Age: Adult
Condition: Mild infection
Dose: Deep Intramuscular or Slow Intravenous – 0.25-0.5 g
Frequency: every 8 hours
Note: Slow intravenous injection to be given over 3-5 minutes, or via intermittent or continuous intravenous infusion.
Indication: Susceptible infections
Age: Adult
Condition: Moderate to severe infection
Dose: Deep Intramuscular or Slow Intravenous – 0.5-1 g
Frequency: every 6-8 hours
Note: Slow intravenous injection to be given over 3-5 minutes, or via intermittent or continuous intravenous infusion.

Child Dose

Indication: Susceptible infections
Age: Child: greater than 1 year
Dose: Injection – 25-50 mg/kg daily
Frequency: in 3 or 4 divided doses
Note: to be given by deep intramuscular injection, slow intravenous injection over 3-5 minutes, or intermittent or continuous intravenous infusion. Maximum: 100 mg/kg daily in divided doses for severe infections.
Indication: Infections With Gram-Positive Cocci
Age: Neonates (less than 28 days)
Condition: less than 7 days
Dose: Intravenous/Intramuscular – 40 mg/kg/day
Frequency: divided every 12 hours

Renal Dose

Condition: Renal impairment with Creatinine Clearance less than 10 ml/min
Dose: Dosage – Half the usual dose
Frequency: every 18-24 hours
Condition: Renal impairment with Creatinine Clearance 11-34 ml/min
Dose: Dosage – Half the usual dose
Frequency: every 12 hours

Storage
After reconstitution, Cefazolin is stable for 24 hours at room temperature or for 10 days if stored under refrigeration (5°C). Reconstituted solution may range in color from pale yellow to yellow without a change in potency.
