Pridinol is administered orally in tablet form, typically as pridinol mesylate, for the treatment of muscle spasms. The standard adult dose is usually taken three times daily, and it may be administered with or without food, though taking it with meals can improve gastrointestinal tolerance. Tablets should be swallowed whole with a sufficient amount of water. It is contraindicated in patients with narrow-angle glaucoma, prostatic hypertrophy, or urinary retention due to its anticholinergic properties. Caution is advised in the elderly due to increased sensitivity to anticholinergic effects and in patients with severe renal or hepatic impairment, where dosage adjustments or avoidance may be necessary. Use in the pediatric population is generally not recommended due to a lack of established safety and efficacy data.
