Administration
Tapinarof is administered topically as a cream. It should be applied as a thin layer to the affected areas of the skin once daily. It is for external use only and must not be applied to the eyes, mouth, or mucous membranes. Patients should wash their hands after application unless the hands are the treated area. No specific dose adjustments are required for renal or hepatic impairment due to minimal systemic absorption. Precautions include monitoring for local adverse reactions, such as folliculitis, contact dermatitis, and headache. It should not be used on severely excoriated or broken skin. It is not currently indicated for pediatric populations, while elderly patients generally require no specific dose adjustments and tolerate the topical application well.
Side Effect
- Folliculitis (20%)
- Nasopharyngitis, including nasal congestion, pharyngitis, respiratory tract infection (RTI) viral, rhinorrhea, sinus congestion, upper RTI, and viral upper RTI (11%)
- Contact dermatitis, including dermatitis, hand dermatitis, and rash (7%)
- Headache, including migraine and tension headache (4%)
- Pruritus, including application site pruritus, generalized pruritus, and genital pruritus (3%)
- Influenza, including influenza-like illness (2%)
