Adult Dose

Indication: Status epilepticus; Emergency management of acute seizures
Age: Adult
Dose: Intravenous – 200-600 mg
Note: As phenobarbital sodium.

Dose: Intravenous – 15-18 mg/kg
Frequency: Loading dose infused at 25-60 mg/minute
Note: Prepare to support ventilation; may repeat in 20-minute intervals as needed; not to exceed 30 mg/kg. As phenobarbital sodium.

Child Dose

Age: Infants and children
Dose: Intravenous – 15-20 mg/kg
Note: Infused at a rate not to exceed 2 mg/kg/minute; not to exceed 1000 mg/dose; less than 60 kg: intravenous rate at less than 30 mg/minute; may repeat with 5-10 mg/kg bolus dose after 15-30 minutes as needed; not to exceed cumulative dose of 40 mg/kg
