Adult Dose

Indication: Schizophrenia
Age: Adult
Dose: Oral – 2 mg/day
Frequency: once daily initially
Note: May be increased in increments of 1-2 mg/day at intervals greater than 24 hours. Recommended target dosage: 2-8 mg/day once daily or divided every 12 hours (efficacy follows bell-shaped curve; 4-8 mg/day more effective than 12-16 mg/day).
Indication: Bipolar Mania
Age: Adult
Dose: Oral – 2-3 mg/day
Frequency: once daily initially
Note: May be increased if necessary in increments of 1 mg/day at intervals of 24 hours to 6 mg/day; dosage recommendations not available for treatment duration greater than 3 weeks.

Child Dose

Note: Safety and efficacy not established.

Dose: Oral – 0.5 mg/day
Note: Initial dose administered in morning or evening. If persistent somnolence occurs, daily dose may be divided every 12 hours.

Renal Dose

Dose: Tablet – 0.5 mg
Frequency: twice daily
Note: Initially 0.5 mg twice daily, may increase in steps of 0.5 mg twice daily, up to 1-2 mg twice daily. Dose increments above 1.5 mg twice daily should be made at intervals of at least 1 week.
