Adult Dose

Age: Adult
Condition: Body weight per day
Dose: hydroxyethyl starch in sodium chloride injection – Up to 50 mL per kg
Frequency: daily
Note: equivalent to 3 g hydroxyethyl starch and 7.7 mEq sodium per kg of body weight.
Age: Adult
Dose: hydroxyethyl starch in sodium chloride injection – 3500 mL
Note: This dose is equivalent to the 50 mL per kg per day recommendation for a 70 kg patient.

Child Dose

Indication: Pediatric Dose
Age: Newborns and infants less than 2 years
Dose: Intravenous – Mean dose of 16 mL/kg
Note: Dosage in children should be adapted to the individual patient colloid needs, taking into account the disease state, as well as the hemodynamic and hydration status. Give initial 10-20 mL by slow intravenous infusion and monitor for anaphylactoid reaction.
Indication: Pediatric Dose
Age: 2-12 years
Dose: Intravenous – Mean dose of 36 mL/kg
Note: Dosage in children should be adapted to the individual patient colloid needs, taking into account the disease state, as well as the hemodynamic and hydration status. Give initial 10-20 mL by slow intravenous infusion and monitor for anaphylactoid reaction.
