Administration

Administer progesterone vaginal preparations intravaginally using the provided applicator for tablets and gels or by hand for suppositories. For assisted reproductive technology, administration typically occurs one to three times daily starting on the day of oocyte retrieval. For the reduction of preterm birth risk, it is usually administered once daily at bedtime. Patients should wash hands before and after insertion and remain supine for 10 to 15 minutes post-administration to enhance absorption. Dosage adjustments are not generally required for renal or hepatic impairment, but use with caution in patients with hepatic dysfunction. Avoid concurrent use with other vaginal products to prevent altered absorption. Treatment is contraindicated in patients with active thromboembolic disorders or undiagnosed vaginal bleeding.
