Administration

Calcium lactate gluconate and calcium carbonate combined with vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) are administered orally, typically as effervescent tablets dissolved in a glass of water or as chewable tablets. For optimal absorption, this combination should be taken with or immediately after meals, as the presence of food and gastric acid enhances the bioavailability of calcium carbonate. To maximize intestinal transport, doses exceeding 500 mg of elemental calcium should be divided throughout the day. Patients should maintain adequate hydration to mitigate side effects such as constipation or flatulence. Caution is required in patients with renal impairment due to the risk of hypercalcemia and hypercalciuria; monitoring of serum calcium and creatinine is recommended. Effervescent forms should be used with care in patients on sodium-restricted diets. Pediatric and elderly dosages should be strictly aligned with age-specific recommended dietary allowances.
