Indication: Transfusional Iron Overload
Age: Adult
Condition: Thalassemia syndromes when current chelation therapy is inadequate
Dose: PO – 25 mg/kg
Frequency: three times daily
Note: Maximum dose: 100 mg/kg/day. Round the dose to the nearest 250 mg. Approval based on serum ferritin level reduction; no controlled trials demonstrating a direct treatment benefit (e.g., improvement in disease-related symptoms, functioning, or increased survival).

Condition: caused by thalassemia syndromes, sickle cell disease, or other anemias
Dose: Tablet – 25 mg/kg
Frequency: three times daily
Note: by mouth (oral). Initial dose. Approval based on serum ferritin level reduction; no controlled trials demonstrating a direct treatment benefit (e.g., improvement in disease-related symptoms, functioning, or increased survival). Maximum dose: 100 mg/kg/day. Round the dose to the nearest 250 mg. 500-mg tablet (aged greater than 8 years).
