Adult Dose

Clinical InformationAdministration Information
Indication: Eclampsia or Severe pre-eclampsia
Condition: Initial therapy
Dose: Intravenous Injection – 4 g
Frequency: once (loading dose)
Note: Administered in 5% Dextrose Injection. Rate of intravenous infusion should generally not exceed 150 mg/minute, or 7.5 mL of a 2% concentration (or its equivalent) per minute, except in severe eclampsia with seizures.
Indication: Eclampsia or Severe pre-eclampsia
Condition: Initial therapy
Dose: Intramuscular Injection – 4 to 5 g (32.5 to 40.6 mEq)
Frequency: once (loading dose)
Note: Administered simultaneously with intravenous dose. Injected into each buttock using undiluted 50% Magnesium Sulfate Injection. Total initial dose is 10 to 14 g.

Child Dose

Clinical InformationAdministration Information
Indication: Acute Nephritis
Age: Children
Dose: Intramuscular – 100 mg/kg or 20-40 mg/kg
Frequency: Every 4-6 hours as needed
Indication: Severe Acute Nephritis
Age: Children
Dose: Intravenous – 100-200 mg/kg
Note: as 1-3% solution
