Adult Dose

Indication: Replacement therapy in adrenocortical insufficiency
Age: Adult
Dose: Oral – 20-30 mg
Frequency: twice daily
Indication: Supplement in adrenal insufficiency during minor surgery under general anaesthesia
Age: Adult
Condition: In patients taking greater than 10 mg of prednisolone or its equivalent by mouth daily
Dose: Intravenous – 25-50 mg
Note: At induction. Resume with usual oral corticosteroid after surgery.

Child Dose

Indication: Replacement therapy in adrenocortical insufficiency
Age: Child
Dose: Oral – 400-800 mcg/kg/day
Frequency: in 2-3 divided doses
Indication: Acute adrenocortical insufficiency
Age: Child
Condition: less than 1 year
Dose: Intravenous – 25 mg
Note: Fluids and electrolytes should be administered as needed to correct any metabolic disorder. Doses may also be given via intramuscular injection but the response may be slower.
