Adult Dose

Dose: Oral – 225-450 mg
Frequency: twice daily
Note: As hydrate: Initially, increased if necessary.
Indication: Reversible airway obstruction
Age: Adult
Dose: Oral Modified-release Medicines – 225 mg
Frequency: twice daily
Duration: 1 week
Note: Initially, adjusted according to plasma theophylline concentration.

Child Dose

Age: Child: greater than 3 years
Dose: Oral – As modified-release hydrate: 12 mg/kg
Frequency: daily
Note: increased to 24 mg/kg daily in 2 divided doses after 1 week
Indication: Chronic asthma
Age: Child
Dose: Oral – Initially 225 mg
Frequency: twice daily
Duration: for 1 week
Note: by mouth using modified-release medicines, then increased if necessary to 450 mg twice daily, adjusted according to plasma theophylline concentration
